Heal with Gratitude
I have some stressful items on my plate right now. Thoughts go through my head like “I will never take walking without pain again for granted.” I am trying to stay positive with gratitude. I can’t walk without pain so I remind myself I have legs. I have hope my walk may get better. I’m glad I live somewhere where medicine is available. Most of the time I can get in to see a doctor. My doctor listens to me and adds on another x-ray when more problems pop up.
I am grateful for being able to smell, see, hear, taste. Remember when people lost their sense of smell and taste due to COVID. I am so grateful I do not have issues breathing. It is a joy to have food to eat. Sometimes our minds are so caught up in the rat race of life we forget the abundance of things we already have. It would be easy for me to lay in bed and go down a path worrying about every appointment and medication. However, I choose to focus on today and what great things I have.
A study from John Hopkins tested the power of positive thinking when it came to healing. The study used a survey to gauge positivity with coronary artery disease. However, alternative studies support the finding that positivity helps people heal, deal with stress, have less inflammation compared to their more negative counterparts who had weakened immune systems. Most mindfulness and gratitude exercises will challenge people to come up with three things they are grateful for every morning. I enjoy doing the exercise in my car also. I find it helps me deal with other drivers. Today, I happen to be headed out for a birthday celebration. I feel gratitude and connection with my fellow humans. Together we can enjoy today and make happy memories for tomorrow.
I am grateful for my brain.
I am grateful for my future spouse.
I am grateful for my friends.
