A rant about healthcare
Well I went for my screenings that women of my age typically get and I got screwed royally. I have Cigna. Because I do a good amount of pro bono and low bono work, I actually qualify for government assistance paying my healthcare premium which is ridiculous. Anyone notice how unmanageable healthcare premiums and bills are since a certain healthcare legislation passed? So my GYN visit, my mammogram, and my colon screening have billed me $1150 and charged for three things that are considered preventative care. Part of the problem is these MotherF**** send your tissue to out of network doctors and YOU get to pay the full 100% amount. I got smart. Last visit I did not sign the stupid third party, “you are responsible for out of network” page. I spent 40 minutes on the phone with Cigna regarding this issue. How am I supposed to control which doctor these morons send my tissue to and whether or not the doctor is in network? I tried to talk to another doctor’s billing department and was transferred and hung up on.
Well I can think of one way to avoid these problems in the future and that is to skip going to the doctor. They make the rules on these screenings and when we are supposed to go but honestly I think it is all BULL. So, I have now cancelled all future doctor appointments. It seems that people in healthcare really don’t give a flying F*CK about our health. Health is secondary in this country. It is all about corporations making money. I am going to do what my old school Italian grandmother did unless I’m bleeding and it won’t stop or I have a bone sticking out NO DOCTORS.
COVID has also made me aware how little our medical professionals know about health and our bodies. I was vaccinated and got COVID. Because I was vaccinated I was only supposed to be sick for 2-5 days. Well I was sick for two weeks and had lingering effects. Booster? Nope. And if that means I cannot travel so be it. I am tired of putting my health in someone else’s hands and relying on others to tell me what my body needs. These doctors are all guessing and that is why the CDC keeps moving the goal post. I’m taking my ball and going home. Good luck price gauging and playing on other people’s fears to make money. I’m done.
